World Environment Day (WED) 2023 - Solutions to plastic pollution

This year’s World Environment Day scheduled for June 5th, 2023, we are planning a two-hour enlightening and enjoyable program specifically designed for students at Secondary school "Bloombreed High School" located at Boskel Road, Elelenwo, Port Harcout, Rivers State. This is part of our annual Train Up a Child (TUC) initiative designed to induce environmental behavioural change in young people as the future belongs to them. Our utmost gratitude goes to our sponsors; TotalEnergies and UNITAR who have made it possible.  

Plastic waste pollution directly affects the surrounding nature, public health, and sustainable development. Since the inception of TURN plastic, the recycling plant has played a crucial role in improving the situation on the ground. Plastic waste is being repurposed into pellets for industrial use and recyclable bags.

Beyond its contribution to plastic waste reduction, this project serves as a social endeavour, empowering young men and women while serving as an educational tool to sensitize the younger generation on the importance of adopting sustainable consumption patterns, recycling plastic waste, and promoting reuse when appropriate.

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, this collaboration launches annual campaigns and activities aimed at educating young minds about the benefits and actions required to ensure the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs 1, 5, 12, 13 & 17), protect the environment, and create employment opportunities while ensuring gender equality.
